Delinquente, Tuff Nutt Pet Nat, Riverland, Australia

If you look outside the mainstream sea ofbigwinetheres a whole lot more going in Australia thanblockbuster Shiraz and supercharged Chardonnay. Con-Greg, winemaker atDelinquente, uses Italian grape varieties well suited to theMediterranean climate of the Riverland region to make fun, juicy, and delicious wines. Theyre not simple by any means but they are super enjoyable, or as Con-Greg puts it,smashable. The typically irreverent and eye-catching labels are by Adelaide street artist Ankles.

The lesser known Puglian grape, Bianco d\'Alessano and this is the only planting ofthese grape in Aus. A soft sparkly pet nat that has fermented to dry in the bottle, expect bags of tropical fruit delights.

Staffelter Hof, Magnus Riesling Trocken, Mosel, Germany -

Wine has been grown at Staffelter Hof for millennia however it has been in the current family since the 17th century and 4 generations of Kleines now reside there. Gird takes care of the vines and his son Jan Matthias who specialised in wine marketing and business administration is the new driving force. 2011 saw the move to organic viticulture and with that they are producing serious award winning wines as well as curve balls... yet more things that make you stop and stare a little too long!

On the nose you\'ll find a wonderful aroma of crisp green apple and pear accompanied by white flowers. In the glass you\'ll be met with bright and clean citrus.

Landron Chartier, Domaine Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire, France -

Some things go together like strawberries & cream. Muscadet & shellfish is one of those classic pairings that just work.

Benot and Bernard Landron farm around 25 hectares of vines near Ancenis, north-east of Nantes, where they produce a mix of red, white & sparkling wines. Their Muscadet is Cteaux de la Loire appellation rather than the more fashionable & expensive Svre et Maine but certainly shouldn\'t be thought of as inferior, just different, expressing the softer climate & different soils of the region.

    Red wines

Quinta Milu, Ribera del Duero, Castilla y Leon, Spain - Ribera del Duero is a region known for being big\" - big wines, big oak, and big bucks. Quinta Mil is refreshingly different, its wines hugely drinkable, pure and fruit forward. Germn Blanco (the farm is named after his daughter) makes wines using techniques like foot treading, wild yeast fermentations and minimal handling, that are infused rather than extracted - elegant and balanced rather than heavy and grippy.

Made partly in stainless steel and partly in open oak tubs then matured for five months in large, old French oak barrels it has lovely flavours of cherries and plums and cracked pepper.
